Flea Market Friends in Need of a Makeover

Ok, these flea market finds are in OBVIOUS need of a makeover! (Oh, are you laughing at me for buying these?!? Just wait! They have potential!)

I am planning on painting over all of the orangy color with black. And his instrument will probably be a dark brown. The tree obviously needs help, too. But I might leave him as-is.

These two ladies need a makeover, too. I thought about painting them a solid creamy color. Or solid black. Just to have the effect of a silhouette.
What do you think? What would you do with these pieces? I'd love to hear your ideas.

(Tomorrow I am posting my 100th post! I will show you the collection of items you can win in my give-away. Remember - every comment between now and my drawing gives you another chance to win.)

Flea Market Finds

This weekend I went to a few estate sales and a flea market. I only came away with a few things. I found these old pocket watch parts. I am going to use these to make something. I don't know what yet. I've seen a few pictures of ways creative people have used old watch parts. Of course, I can't remember any of them right now. Hopefully, some creative idea will emerge from the fog in my brain. Got any great ideas?

I love the look of old creamware and silver together. I already collect old silver and silverplate, but I had never bought any old creamware before this weekend. I found a couple of pieces to get me started. I'm sure my husband will just be thrilled when he begins to realize that a new collection has taken root in our house.

And I just liked the brown transferware plate. The little ceramic lady is something I can add to my "collection of heads and bodies" that my kids are so fond of.

I can't believe I have let a week go by without posting. I've just been so busy.
This is my 98th post. Remember, every comment you leave between now and 100 will give you another chance at winning my GIVE-AWAY. I'm still collecting things to add to it! I will show you everything in my 100th post.

Buy It By The Box
The first day I stopped at this estate sale, I looked, I wanted, I did not buy. At 10 p.m. that night I had non-buyer's remorse. So what's a girl to do?
Be at their door at 8 a.m. the following morning, of course. Thankfully I didn't have to be at work until 9 a.m.

So, you know what I will be washing tomorrow.

Pink Saturday
I'm sorry, I completely forgot to do my Pink Saturday post last night, and then I left early for work this morning. I just got home, so I am really late getting this post up.

These little roses are actually soap. You just pluck one little petal at a time to wash your hands. I think these rose soaps, on a vintage china plate, would be so pretty sitting by a bathroom sink.

A little Valentines look for the bathroom vanity.

Thanks for visiting. Happy Pink Saturday.

We are hurtling toward Valentine's Day!

And I still have some of my Christmas decor up! How in the world did January disappear so fast? I am supposed to be losing 20 lbs by mid-March. So far I have only lost 8. And I can't tell. At all! Shouldn't 8 lbs at least make a tiny difference in the way my jeans fit?

I just listed some of these Valentine Gift Sets - two in my etsy store, and three in my ebay store. The links to my stores are over there ----------> or you can just click on the pictures.

I wonder if I should ask my hubby for a huge heart-shaped box of candy for Valentine's Day. That is what I want. Do you think it would hinder my diet? What if I ate the whole box in one sitting? Then I could just call it one bad meal, and resume my diet at the next meal. Does that work? No? Sigh.

My Pottery Barn Knock-Off

001

Recently I saw a picture in one of the Pottery Barn catalogs that I absolutely loved - 3 bells that looked old, mounted inside black boxes. Being Pottery Barn, they were pricey.

002 003

Then one day I ran across four really old bells at an estate sale for $1.00 each! I snapped them up!

My husband built four wood boxes from scrap lumber that was rolling around in the garage, and I painted them black. I also spray painted some basic metal cup hooks (the shiny brass kind) and some silver chain - painted these in a dark brown color so they would look old.

Then I just hung the bells from the cup hooks using the chain. And for $4.00, plus a few cents for the cup hooks and a short length of chain, I have a Pottery Barn look-alike.

My Latest Favorite Yard Sale Finds

I stopped at a yard sale in my neighborhood this week and bought these four items - get this - for $1 each!!!!

I have been on the lookout for some silver tiered trays like these two. I certainly expected to pay more than $1. The one above is in my bathroom right now, and I do love it there. But it might not always live there. At Christmas it will probably be in my sitting room full of beautiful glass Christmas ornaments, and have feathers and some glittery Christmas picks in the vase at the top!

The one below will probably live right where it is, holding these little jewelry boxes and perfume bottles. (By the way, it is not leaning - maybe I was when I took the photo?!)

I don't know where this little tray will live, but I liked it, especially for $1.
This little copper purse is hanging in my studio. I think I like it where it is. I have a lot going on for the next few days, so it may be midweek before I am able to post again. So come back then. Have a great weekend!

Estate Sale Finds

Yesterday my daughter and I stopped at two estate sales. I found a new necklace for my girl. She lives on my studio table. And I found these two beautiful pairs of earrings. I just love them!
I also found this metal stand for $8. I think it could be used to hold music. Or maybe some of my decorating magazines. One of my daughters is a classical piano major in college, so I am somewhat drawn to music-related items.

Our estate sale stops were worth it!
I really like the way my little bulletin boards turned out. I finally finished and hung all four. I bought these frames at Hobby Lobby and took the glass out, added 12 x 12 scrapbook paper, pre-cut 12 x 12 cork board, put the backing back on, and had a quick, wonderful bulletin board. The frames are the perfect size for the paper and cork board. I may periodically change the photos or the embellishments. They look just the way I had hoped!
I also added this little cast iron soap dish to my desk and filled it with some vintage jewelry. I love the look of this. I wish I had a better digital camera. The one I am using does NOT take good close up pictures at all!!!! That may be on my Christmas wish list! By the way, Christmas is only 180 days away!!!!

I think I may try to make a trip to a couple of thrift stores today and look for more vintage jewelry.
Have a great Friday!
